“Turn – press – turn – press – turn – press” … Gabriel Wenzel turns a handy white box in his hand, on whose black and white display small symbols alternate, including a short text: “Lights on”, “House Leave ”,“ Close the blinds ”or“ View into the living room ”is written on the screen, which is hardly bigger than a pack of cigarettes.

And whenever Wetzel turns the little box called “Twist” to the side, the command changes. A tap on the single push button on the device activates the function “You don’t need more than this device to control a smart house today, no programming knowledge, not even a smartphone,” promises the head of the technology company’s smart home division.

Wetzel is sitting in a replica of the apartment at the company’s IFA stand in Hall 3 on the Berlin exhibition grounds. The Bosch manager can control shutters, doors, windows, lamps, washing machines and even the heating with his networked box.
